Progress report: Personal Pull-Up Challenge. Bring it!

Hey everyone! I am starting my own personal pull-up fitness challenge, but I would love it if you joined me!! I have never been able to do a full, unassisted pull-up and I want to change that! If I ever find myself dangling off the side of a cliff, I want to be able to lift my own body weight. Life skills at their best. I think I have been watching too many action movies in the cardio cinema room at the gym…..

Monday was my first day back on the assisted pull-up machine and I was so sore for a couple/few days. I haven’t worked those muscles in a long time! I knew today was the day I was going to get back at it and I wanted to share my progress…..soon to be progress. I have mentioned before that I chose not to share “before” and “after” weight loss photos. Personally, I like before and after pictures depicting how people have lost weight, but I know for so many people, it can bring on feelings of negativity and this blog is all about motivation. I have looked at “before” pictures when I was much heavier and the images were my GOAL. What I will share is before and after pictures of getting stronger. Yes! Straight up muscle and ability. Currently, I am unable to do a pull-up. Currently….

So, here I am at the very start of my personal pull-up challenge (1/22/18):

Side note: the kids’ bathroom is bigger than ours and I don’t even own a full length mirror so many pictures are taken with the duckies in the background!

I’m not looking to get jacked, but I want to see how much stronger I can get. Here is where I am so far:

pull-ups week 1 stats

I have a looooong way to go. Yes, I only did 2 days of pull-ups and yes, after a few days off I could only do 3 reps per set. My arms were burning! I’m easing into this. I was shocked that I needed 100 pounds of assistance. I have been doing minimal weight lifting and it shows in the numbers. Now I really know where I am starting!

On Thursday, I had another run in the cardio cinema room while watching the 2016 remake of Ben Hur. It was really good and when I was done with my run, I wanted to kick my legs up and stay for the rest of the movie, but I’m pretty sure that is frowned upon.

I ran 4 miles with a 1/4 mile running cool down and a 1/4 mile walking cool down.

This is my favorite running shirt. Super soft and long! After the gym, I needed to restock some fresh fruit until the end of the week and our local grocery store has the best salad bar! I knew my left over pulled pork from dinner the night before wasn’t going to be enough so I got a “side salad”….. with tuna and tortellini pasta salad.

Let’s take a closer look at that sandwich….

It was just what I needed. I love pulled pork topped with homemade cole slaw and drenched in hot sauce. I added the hot sauce after the picture. Dan tried to finish the last bit of the cole slaw at dinner the night before and I just about snatched the bowl from his hands. I have issues with sharing food. There was just enough left for me to have for lunch and he was kind enough to back away from the bowl and let me save it. This is the last picture with Christmas plates until next December. I finally got around to putting them away. I just love the dishes so much and boxing them back up isn’t nearly as fun as bringing them out after Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and I will be back soon with the weekly meal plan.
