Good morning! I have been gone for a couple of weeks. The holidays and traveling to visit family had all of us off our schedule. The first week back to school for the kiddos was rough after getting used to being up late and having fun with family. Now we are back to the normal life and I am excited to be blogging again!
First thing I had to do when I got home from over a week of being away was to have a massive salad!
I love to eat out once in a while, but after more than a couple of days of eating out I crave homemade meals and veggies. My sister and I actually exchanged about a million texts with different salad ideas because she feels the same way too. I think getting excited about salad is totally normal. Riiiiight? I made a salad with baby kale, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, cucumber, red onion, grains, feta and a vinaigrette dressing. Just what I needed!
Maybe I wasn’t blogging because my hair was a wreck and I couldn’t stand to post pictures. Not really- have you seen some of the pictures I post of myself?! No shame up in my game. I did let my hair grow out way too much between highlights and I finally had enough and got all of my hairs did!
I have had visible white hair since I was 15 years old so I don’t look at white hair as a sign of aging – I have just always had it. For a lot of years I could dye my hair to match my natural, super dark hair color and cover the white, but that ship has sailed! No color in a box will help me now so I highlight. I love my hair dresser and she does great work, but I do miss my dark hair! I will go dark again when there is too much white to highlight or maybe I will just go white and try to rock that look.
Enough about hair! I am really excited to be celebrating my one year anniversary of being migraine free! I wrote about running and my experiences with migraines before in this post. As a quick recap, I have suffered from migraines since I was 16 years old, but it was in January 2017 that I had my worst experience – FOUR days with a migraine. I got my stress levels in check and made running/working-out consistently a priority throughout the year even when things were crazy with work, kids, schedules, sickness…. I just did it and I have been rewarded! To suffer from consistent migraines for 21 years and then have an entire year being migraine free is something I never thought I would experience. Are those angels singing? 🙂 I have a whole box full of injectable migraine medicine that I have not had to use. I know my day will come again, but I am grateful for the reprieve from pain and that I have finally figured out how to help myself. I feel for those that have different triggers that are not so easily controlled.
Yesterday was a good run for me and the cardio cinema room is working again at the gym. Thank goodness. I started with some weights and ab work then a five minute walking warm-up and restarted the treadmill. I ran four miles and ended with a 1/2 mile walk to cool down.
I left with my mind clear and feeling energized. The run felt so good and I feel great today that I want to run again, but I’m sticking to my plan to hit up a Zumba class for low impact cross training. I haven’t been to a class in a while so I’m ready for some loud music and to try to keep up with the moves since I haven’t been to this particular class before. Wish me luck!
What are your favorite salad combinations?
