I like to get the meal weekly meal plan posted early on the weekend so hopefully I can give you a few ideas before you head out grocery shopping. I still stress about what to make for dinners and planning in advance definitely helps. It also mentally prepares me for the long sighs the kids give me when I tell them we are having a meal that isn’t their favorite. I’m so mean trying to make them eat well balanced meals.
Before I get into the meal plan, I had to show you this special treat I got the kiddos yesterday:
Their eyes just about popped out of their heads when I said they could get a hot chocolate AND a cookie! I rarely go to Starbucks because I’m mostly a tea drinker and it is really expensive, but after running around with the two of them yesterday going to both of their schools for parent/teacher conferences, I needed a fancy coffee! I got them the kid-sized hot chocolates and then I noticed the cookies so I ordered that too. The cookies were actually huge. I’m pretty careful about the amount of sugar they have so without sounding too much like a nagging mommy, I told them they didn’t have to finish it and they could save their cookie for later or eat it all at once. Both of them ended up eating half the cookie and half the drink. I think I have ruined my kids for just enjoying sweets! I definitely don’t try to withhold and I DON’T use desserts as a bargaining tool. They either get a dessert or they don’t and I try really hard to not equate desserts/sweets with rewards. They know every night is not a dessert night even when they clean their plate and they totally understand it now.
I get Saturday night off from cooking! The kiddos got their report cards yesterday during the conferences and they both did really well. They get to pick a restaurant they both agree on to celebrate. We started this tradition last year and so far it’s Olive Garden…..Every. Time. Until last year, Dan and I hadn’t been to an Olive Garden in years. I actually like it again mostly because of the salad and breadsticks – the same reason Super D wants to go there. Si-Guy is a meatball lover so he’s happy any time he is in an Italian restaurant. I’ll take a night out any time especially if it includes a lemon drop martini! 🙂
This is how I feel about tacos. Especially the other day when I hit up Taco Bell before my disaster of a run! Oh Liam Neeson…..
Onto the weekly meal plan!
Sunday: Whole roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, roasted broccoli with garlic and lemon
Monday: Chili and cornbread
Tuesday: Oven baked Mexican Pizza with beans, side of corn and avocado (tacos for the kiddos)
Wednesday: BBQ chicken sliders w/pepper jack cheese, red onion and cilantro (using left over chicken from Sunday)
Thursday: Spaghetti and meatballs (eggplant parmesan for me!) and side salad
Friday: Homemade pizza and fruit
Saturday: Who knows?! 🙂
Good luck with dinners throughout the week!
We have a full weekend planned and we are getting 3-6 inches of snow tomorrow. That isn’t much by NY standards, but it may put a damper on Super D’s horseback riding lesson in the morning. Dan is actually beyond thrilled for snow because he wants to try out the new snow blower. I had never even seen a snow blower until we moved to NY. Now we have one that you walk behind to operate and one that is mounted on our lawn tractor. Seriously. I have learned a lot after three years in the Hudson Valley! 🙂
Have a great weekend! Eat lots of good food. Have a good run. Relax!
Do you have any exciting meals planned for the week or a special dinner out?
Anyone done with Christmas shopping yet? I’m not at all!
